Montgomery County’s Fall Guide for Recreation And Park Programs Now Available

 

          The fall issue of the Montgomery County Guide for Recreation and Parks Programs is now available.  Recreation will begin accepting registrations for its fall programs and classes on Monday, August 15.  Registration for swim lessons opens on August 17.  Residents are encouraged to register early as many programs fill up quickly.

          Travel, sports leagues and classes are just some of the fall program offerings that are available through Montgomery County Recreation.   

   Closing dates for fall sports league registration is as follows:

August 22 – adult softball

August 26 – adult soccer and adult two-hand touch and co-rec flag football

With temperatures in the area expecting to soar in the high 90’s and 100's once again this week, Washington Sports Clubs is encouraging Washingtonians to take their workouts indoors to escape the heat. Clubs citywide will open their doors to the public for free workouts every time the thermometer hits 90 degrees through August.

Beginning this month you can work out for free in any WSC facility on days where the temperature tops 90 degrees.

Washington Nationals Miracle Field Opens in Montgomery County

We joined Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson, third-base coach Bo Porter, and pitchers Sean Burnett and Jordan Zimmermann for the the grand opening of the Washington Nationals Miracle Field with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, August 1st.

"It's a pretty special event, one of a kind in this area, that gives everyone including those with disabilities the chance to play baseball," explained Nationals Pitcher Sean Burnett.

 In association with the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation, the field is located in South Germantown Recreational Park. It will serve as the new home for the Miracle League of Montgomery County, which will provide children with mental and/or physical challenges the opportunity to safely play baseball.

Leggett to Participate in Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Washington Nationals Miracle Field

 

On Monday, August 1st, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will join Maryland Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown, Montgomery County Council members Craig Rice and Phil Andrews, U.S. Congressman Chris Van Hollen,  local government officials and Nationals players and owners to officially open the new Miracle Field in Germantown.

The Washington Nationals, in association with the Washington Nationals Dream Foundation, The Annette M. and Theodore N. Lerner Family Foundation, the Miracle League of 

Montgomery County, the Kiwanis Club of Bethesda, the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, will officially mark the grand opening of the Washington Nationals Miracle Field with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, August 1.
