North America’s Largest Specialty Food & Beverage Event came to D.C. July 10th, 11th, and 12th at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.  The Fancy Food Show had 2,400 exhibitors, 180,000 products, but only one Silence Tea.

Uncle Julio’s Swirl Margarita in Bethesda, Md:

The Swirl layers margarita with Uncle Julio's secret sangria is a shockingly good frozen marriage alternated in decadent layers. Can’t go wrong with this double duo, accompanied by chips and salsa!

Montgomery County's Citizen Academy Graduation

On Tuesday, July 5 at 7 p.m., residents who have recently completed the Montgomery County Police Department’s Citizen Academy will graduate in a ceremony at the Public Service Training Academy.

These graduates have completed an eighteen week course that included classes on firearm safety, Maryland traffic law, investigating major crimes, drug identification, scams and fraud, prostitution, forensics/crime lab, physical/sexual child abuse, DUI/underage drinking, and the procedures of the Emergency Response Team.  Academy members also observed a canine demonstration and had the choice of touring the Montgomery County Detention Center, the Emergency Communications Center, and participating in a ride-along with a police officer.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

I recently watched the movie Snow White while babysitting for a friend’s daughter so she could get out.  The last time I had seen the movie was many years ago when I watched it with my kids.  As I have witnessed many times in the past couple of decades, the message of Positive Self Talk was loud and clear.

When the evil queen asked, “Mirror, mirror on the wall, who’s the fairest one of all?” The mirror’s reply, “Snow White” made the evil Queen furious. You see, it wasn’t enough for the Queen that she was beautiful.  Instead, the Queen chose to see that she wasn’t enough. There was someone more beautiful than she.

Police Adventure Camp!

The 4th Police Adventure Camp at Viers Mill Elementary School focused on teaching incoming 4th, 5th, and 6th graders skills like decision making, how to refuse drugs and alcohol, and resisting peer pressure.

"It started out with 30 at-risk youth. They came in, we talked about making good decisions: resisting drugs, alcohol and gangs and gave them skills to be better students," said Officer Amy Daum.

The camp is a partnership between Montgomery County Police Department, Montgomery County Public Schools and Linkages to Learning. The Linkages to Learning Program assists students and their families with services to help children be successful in school, at home, and in the community.
