Police Investigate Germantown Thefts from Vehicles Left Unattended Outside Daycare Centers
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police – 5th/6th District Investigative Section are asking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect(s) responsible for several thefts from vehicles at two Germantown daycare centers. From December 3rd, 2010 through February 24, 2011, there have been four incidents of theft from vehicles parked outside of two daycare centers. All of the incidents occurred from vehicles which were left unlocked as parents/guardians picked up their children. All four of these events occurred between 6:00 - 6:50 p.m. The property that was stolen includes electronics, credit cards, and cash. On December 3, December 6, 2010, and February 24, 2011, between 6:00 p.m. and 6:50 p.m., three thefts occurred at the Kindercare Daycare center, located at 13230 Clopper Mill Road in Germantown.

Arrest of Four Burglary Suspects

 Detectives from the Montgomery County Police 5th/6th District Investigative Section arrested three suspects and charged them with two residential burglaries.  A fourth suspect was arrested and charged with theft.  All four are believed to be responsible for many other burglaries in the area. 

On November 23, 2010, Officers responded to the 600 block of Lakeworth Drive in Gaithersburg, for the report of a burglary.  It was learned that a tan unknown model SUV was seen at the residence during the burglary.  Through the course of the investigation, Kaba Camara was developed as a suspect.

On December 15, 2010, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Camara was observed with two other males in the area of the 9100 block of Bobwhite Circle in Gaithersburg.  It was later learned that a residence there had been burglarized.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police 5th/6th District Investigative Section have made three arrests from a purse-snatching that occurred in Germantown. 

On November 15, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the 55-year-old female victim was shopping at the Germantown Walmart, located at 20910 Frederick Road.  The victim was pushing a shopping cart in the store when two males approached and stole her purse from the cart.  The suspects fled from the scene and then used one of the stolen credit cards at a restaurant near Lake Forest Mall in Gaithersburg. 

Detectives obtained and publicized (December 8 press release) several suspect photos from a surveillance camera. The follow-up investigation subsequently identified an adult and two juveniles as suspects.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police 5th/6th District Investigative Section are investigating a purse-snatching that occurred on November 15 in Germantown.  They now have surveillance photographs of the suspects to release.

At approximately 7:00 p.m., the 55-year-old female victim was shopping at the Germantown Walmart, located at 20910 Frederick Road.  The victim was pushing a shopping cart in the store when two males approached and stole her purse from the cart.  The suspects fled from the scene and then used one of the stolen credit cards at a restaurant near Lake Forest Mall in Gaithersburg. 

The first suspect is described as a black male, with a dark complexion, in his late teens, with short black hair.  He was last seen wearing a gray jacket and a black knit cap.

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide/Sex Section are investigating a rape that occurred in Gaithersburg.

At approximately 11:08 a.m., 6th District and Gaithersburg Police officers responded to the Asbury Methodist Village, located at 417 Russell Avenue, for the report of a rape that had just occurred.      

The preliminary investigation determined that the 18-year-old victim entered a women’s rest room at Asbury Methodist Village where she was confronted by the suspect.  The suspect threatened the victim with a handgun and proceeded to rape the victim.  The suspect then fled from the area after the assault. 

The suspect is described as a black male, in his mid-20’s, 6’00” to 6’02” tall, with a muscular build, and light beard.  He was wearing dark jeans, a gray hooded-jacket, white shoes, and was armed with a handgun.

Gaithersburg (AP)- Montgomery County Police say a California man has been arrested in a 1981 rape after a DNA match.

Fifty-four-year-old Joseph Nickens of Los Angeles was arrested Nov. 3 in Los Angeles. He is charged with rape and burglary and was returned to Maryland on Monday, where he is being held without bond.

Police say on April 20, 1981, a man broke into a woman's apartment in Gaithersburg and raped her at knifepoint.

This year, detectives reopened the case and submitted evidence from the crime for a forensic examination. A DNA profile was obtained and a match was made.

N.J. Congressman Fires Aide Charged with Soliciting Sex from a Minor-Caught by Gaithersburg Police

WASHINGTON (AP)— A New Jersey congressman has fired his chief of staff after the aide was arrested in Maryland on a charge of soliciting sex from a minor.

Rep. Steve Rothman (D-9th Dist.) took the action after learning that Robert Decheine was among 11 people snared in a Gaithersburg, Md., police sting. Police placed ads on a website and an undercover officer communicated with customers through phone and text messages.

Police said the 48-year-old was arrested on Nov. 17 after soliciting to have sex with an underage girl. Decheine was released on $15,000 bail.

The Record newspaper reports Rothman's office issued a statement saying the New Jersey Democrat considers the alleged criminal act "to be shocking, appalling and indefensible."
